OVERVIEW | |
Full name of organisation | Women’s Studies Resource Centre Collective Inc. |
Short description | In 1973, the inaugural National Conference on Sexism in Education was convened by the Women’s Liberation Movement in response to growing concerns about the status of women and girls in society. These concerns had become increasingly evident in universities like Flinders. Recognizing the need for educational materials in this domain, the Women’s Studies Resource Centre was established in July 1975. Its creation was made possible through a grant from the Australian National Advisory Committee for International Women’s Year. The primary mission of the WSRC is to offer resources that challenge and counteract the pervasive sexist assumptions and values that persist in society. Additionally, it aims to provide materials for women’s and gender studies that are free from sexist biases. The center boasts an extensive collection, comprising over 18,000 items, to support these objectives. |
