Australian Council for Rehabilitation of Disabled [ 1963 – ]
OVERVIEW | |
Full name of organisation | Australian Council for Rehabilitation of Disabled |
Short description | NDS originated in 1945 when the Australian Advisory Council for the Physically Handicapped was created to coordinate state and territory bodies nationwide. By the early 1960s, it became evident that disability service providers, irrespective of their specific focus, shared numerous common interests. Consequently, the Australian Council for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled emerged in 1963 as a more inclusive organization. This shift enabled the volunteer sector to collectively advocate for disability-related concerns with the government, presenting a unified voice on these issues. |
