| Short description | The Young Liberal Movement of Australia, known as the Young Liberals, is the youth wing of the Liberal Party of Australia, representing members aged 16 to 31. It operates as a federation, with each state and territory division managing its own campaigns, policies, and strategies. Federally, it coordinates through the Federal Young Liberal Executive. The Movement serves as a recruitment platform for the Liberal Party and plays a significant role in its volunteer base. Young Liberal Presidents sit on the executive of their respective state and territory divisions, while the Federal President and Federal Vice-President sit on the Federal Liberal Executive. Established on December 12, 1945, following the official inauguration of the Liberal Party, it was formed under the guidance of Sir Robert Menzies, integrating young Nationalists into the new party. The first national meeting occurred on March 4, 1967, and by 1968, annual National Conventions were instituted for Young Liberals. In 1974, the Federal Council restructured senior positions to include a “Federal President,” “Federal Vice-President,” and “Young Liberal Federal Executive.” |
